About us

(not our actual machine)

"Thirty years ago I bought my first sewing machine, a Singer Redeye treadle. I remember the sound of the treadle filling the house as I worked on dresses in my free time. Back then, sewing was a hobby and I made dresses for myself to complement the rest of my wardrobe. My designs were initially based on dresses I already owned but with time I started coming up with my own unique designs. I soon began to get requests for dresses from friends and family as they admired the quality and uniqueness of my designs. Over time I honed the craft and my daughter also caught the dress-making bug. We made clothes for ourselves for all occasions (casual as well as formal) and continued to fulfill requests for dresses from our friends. And yes, we traded the Singer Redeye treadle sewing machine for more modern options."

"In 2010 we started Bosa Modest Wear to share our designs and passion for dressmaking beyond our circle of friends and relatives. We are a mother-daughter team who aim to provide trendy clothes to ladies who want to dress modestly and fashionably. Every item is designed and carefully handcrafted by us so you can be sure of a unique and high quality product. Our designs are influenced by local and world fashions. We source most of our fabrics and materials from local stores and businesses in Maryland. Our designs include African Dresses, Caftans, Abayas, Tunics, Muumuu, Skirts and Halter Dresses. We use a variety of fabrics including African Print, Cottons and blends. We also design winter wear including Fleece Scarves and Ponchos. We have a children's line that includes Girl's Dresses and Pillowcase Dresses."
